At First Law Solicitors, we provide meticulous and compassionate legal guidance for individuals who wish to come to the UK to marry or form a civil partnership with a British citizen or settled person.
We understand that this application represents more than a visa it is the first legal step toward building your life together. Our solicitors prepare every detail of your application with precision, ensuring compliance with the Home Office’s Appendix FM requirements while minimising risk of refusal or delay.
Based in Manchester and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA ID No: 665823), we represent clients across the UK and internationally, combining legal accuracy with discretion, empathy, and efficiency.
This visa allows individuals who are engaged to a British citizen or a person settled in the UK to enter the country for the purpose of marriage or civil partnership.
The visa is granted for six months, during which you must marry or register your civil partnership. Once the ceremony has taken place, you can then switch to a Spouse or Civil Partner Visa from within the UK, placing you on the five-year route to settlement.
Unlike most short-term visas, the fiancé(e) visa does not permit work in the UK during its validity. This period is intended solely for marriage preparation and transition to the next stage of your immigration status.

To qualify for a fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner visa, you must meet the following key criteria under Appendix FM:
Relationship Requirement: You must be in a genuine relationship with a British citizen or settled person and intend to marry or enter a civil partnership within six months of arrival in the UK. Evidence such as engagement photographs, wedding venue bookings, invitations, or joint correspondence can help establish your genuine intention.
Financial Requirement: The sponsoring partner must demonstrate a gross annual income of at least £29,000 or hold sufficient savings to meet the same threshold. This figure remains in place as of December 2025, following the government’s decision to pause the proposed rise to £38,700.
Accommodation Requirement: You must show that suitable accommodation will be available for you and your partner once you arrive in the UK, without recourse to public funds.
English Language Requirement: You must meet Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), proven through an approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) unless exempt.
We prepare and review every supporting document in line with Appendix FM-SE, ensuring full compliance with the Home Office’s evidential standards.
The Home Office carefully examines fiancé and proposed civil partner applications to verify both the genuineness of the relationship and the couple’s intent to marry within the visa’s validity period.
We assist clients in gathering comprehensive supporting documentation, such as:
Each document is checked for format, consistency, and time relevance, reducing the risk of refusal under the Home Office’s technical requirements.
Once you have married or registered your civil partnership in the UK, you can apply to switch to a Spouse or Civil Partner Visa without leaving the country.
This new visa is valid for 2.5 years (30 months) and places you on the five-year route to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Our solicitors handle the transition seamlessly, ensuring there are no gaps in lawful residence and that all financial and English language requirements are met.
All applications are now processed digitally through the Home Office’s MyHMCTS platform. Under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, applicants are required to verify their identity using Digital ID Verification (IDV) and sign forms with Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES).
At First Law Solicitors, we manage all digital submissions, uploads, and communications through our secure encrypted client portal. This system safeguards your privacy and ensures compliance with both Home Office and SRA data standards.
We regularly assist high-net-worth clients and professionals with complex fiancé visa applications involving international documentation, cross-border assets, or cultural marriage formalities.
Our solicitors coordinate with embassies, registrars, and financial institutions to obtain compliant evidence from overseas, ensuring a seamless presentation that satisfies Home Office verification standards.
In cases where a relationship has faced previous refusals or allegations of non-genuineness, we prepare detailed legal representations addressing each refusal reason and reinforcing the authenticity of the partnership under Article 8 ECHR (Right to Family Life).
Every application at First Law Solicitors benefits from rigorous preparation, senior oversight, and cutting-edge compliance.
Strategic Oversight: Every case is managed by an experienced immigration solicitor specialising in family routes under Appendix FM.
Evidence Precision: We cross-reference all documents with FM-SE formatting standards to ensure technical accuracy.
Digital Integrity: All submissions comply with the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, ensuring secure, transparent, and efficient processing.
Our focus is not only on securing your visa but also on preparing the foundation for your long-term life together in the UK.
