At First Law Solicitors, we provide strategic and compassionate legal representation for religious leaders, ministers, missionaries, and faith-based institutions seeking to work or establish a presence in the United Kingdom.
The Minister of Religion Visa (T2) is the primary immigration route for individuals who have been offered a key leadership, preaching, pastoral, or missionary role within a registered UK faith organisation.
Our solicitors understand that faith-based work is both a vocation and a community service. We combine technical immigration expertise with sensitivity to cultural and religious values, ensuring every application meets the highest Home Office evidential standards while protecting your long-term residence and settlement prospects.
This route sits within the UK’s Points Based Immigration System and is reserved for individuals undertaking a formal religious position. It is distinct from the Religious Worker Visa, which covers temporary or support roles within a faith community.
The Minister of Religion Visa applies to those who will:
The role must be genuine, full-time, and salaried. The sponsoring organisation must hold a valid Sponsor Licence and issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) confirming the details of employment.

To qualify, an applicant must:
Our solicitors carefully review all documentation, including ordination certificates, faith organisation constitutions, and employment contracts, to ensure full compliance with Home Office requirements.
The sponsoring organisation must confirm that the applicant’s salary is at least equivalent to that paid to local clergy or faith leaders performing similar duties.
Following the July 2025 reforms, the Home Office requires all sponsor employers to demonstrate fair pay and genuine vacancy conditions in line with Appendix Skilled Worker standards. Salaries must reflect the full-time nature of the post and be paid through verifiable payroll channels.
The Data Use and Access Act 2025 (DUAA) has empowered the Home Office to cross-check sponsor salary data with HMRC’s Real Time Information (RTI) system. Any inconsistency between reported and actual earnings can trigger a compliance audit.
We ensure that both sponsors and applicants remain fully compliant through ongoing legal and procedural oversight.
The visa is usually granted for up to three years and one month, or the period stated on the Certificate of Sponsorship plus fourteen days, whichever is shorter.
It can be extended for a further three years, allowing up to six years of residence in total. After five continuous years in this route, the applicant may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), provided they continue to meet the eligibility and sponsorship requirements.
We manage every step of this process from the initial visa to extension and settlement, ensuring your residence remains continuous and your service to the community uninterrupted.
Partners and dependent children can accompany or join the visa holder in the United Kingdom. Dependants are free to work or study, except as professional sportspeople.
We handle all accompanying family applications, ensuring that each dependant’s visa aligns perfectly with the principal applicant’s duration and sponsorship period.
From 1 January 2026, all Minister of Religion Visas are issued as digital eVisas. Physical Biometric Residence Permits have been replaced by secure UKVI digital accounts. Applicants and employers share immigration status electronically through verified share codes.
Our firm operates in full compliance with the Data Use and Access Act 2025, using Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) and encrypted digital filing to ensure complete data security and efficiency in all immigration processes.
This system reduces processing times and provides full transparency between the applicant, sponsor, and the Home Office.
Faith Sector Expertise: We have significant experience assisting churches, mosques, temples, and other religious organisations across multiple faith traditions.
Legal Precision: Every application is prepared and reviewed by an immigration solicitor experienced in the sponsorship and compliance framework for religious institutions.
Long-Term Strategy: We plan beyond the initial visa, advising on extensions, settlement, and transitioning to permanent residence.
Digital Compliance: Our systems are fully aligned with DUAA 2025 and modern Home Office digital verification protocols.
At First Law Solicitors, we provide more than immigration support; we help faith communities continue their mission in the United Kingdom with legal certainty and peace of mind.
