Protecting Your Future – Trusted Legal Guidance for Life’s Most Important Decisions
At First Law Solicitors, we help individuals and families plan ahead with confidence. Whether you are preparing a Power of Attorney, supporting a loved one who has lost capacity, or applying to the Court of Protection, our solicitors provide clear, sensitive and professional legal guidance.
Based in Manchester and serving clients across the UK, we are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA ID No: 665823) and committed to delivering advice that combines technical precision with personal care.
Private Client law ensures that your wishes, finances and welfare are protected throughout your life. Our solicitors assist with: creating and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), advising on mental capacity and best-interest decisions under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and representing clients before the Court of Protection where complex or contested issues arise.
We simplify what can often be an emotional and confusing process, ensuring your decisions are respected and your loved ones supported.

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone you trust to manage your affairs if you lose mental capacity in the future. There are two forms – one for Property and Financial Affairs and one for Health and Welfare.
We guide you through drafting, witnessing and registration with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), ensuring full compliance and clarity of instruction.
Updated Fees (November 2025)
The OPG application fee is £92 per LPA. A 50 percent remission applies for individuals with annual income below £12,000, and full exemptions remain available for those on qualifying means-tested benefits.
Peace of Mind Matters: A solicitor-prepared LPA ensures accuracy, prevents rejection, and avoids disputes later – a small investment that secures lifelong protection.
When a person has already lost capacity and no LPA exists, the only legal option is to apply for Deputyship through the Court of Protection.
We handle every stage – from preparing evidence of incapacity to filing applications and liaising with the OPG. Families trust us to ensure deadlines are met and obligations understood.
Court Fees (Effective Nov 2025)
A Deputyship application attracts a £421 court fee. If the court lists a hearing, an additional £259 hearing fee applies. New deputies pay a one-off £100 assessment fee, followed by an annual supervision fee of £320 for general supervision.
Because Deputyship applications can take six to nine months, we advise early planning to avoid gaps in financial management or care decisions.
Our advice is grounded in the five statutory principles of the Act:
Every adult is presumed to have capacity unless proven otherwise; no one should be treated as incapable simply because they make an unwise decision; individuals must receive all practicable help before capacity is questioned; any act taken must be in their best interests; and all interventions must be the least restrictive of their rights.
We apply these principles rigorously to protect autonomy and dignity in every case.
We operate in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection Rules 2017, and OPG Practice Notes (2025).
To comply with the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds Regulations (as amended 2025), our firm uses bank-grade Digital ID Verification (IDV) systems. This allows clients to confirm their identity securely from home, providing both regulatory compliance and convenience while meeting HM Treasury’s enhanced risk-based due-diligence standard.
Each matter is supervised by solicitors with more than 20 years of post-qualification experience, ensuring senior oversight and accountability at every step.
Our approach combines professionalism, empathy and discretion. We invest time in understanding your family dynamics and personal wishes, then translate them into legally sound arrangements that protect your interests long-term.
Clients choose us for our clarity, reliability and personal touch – qualities that distinguish true private-client specialists from generic online forms or unregulated providers.
