Study Visit Visa

Understanding the Study Visit Visa

The UK Study Visit Visa allows international visitors to take part in short academic or educational activities without enrolling on a long-term student programme.

This route is ideal for:

All study must take place at an accredited institution listed on the UK’s official register of education providers. The visit must be temporary and the applicant must leave the United Kingdom at the end of the course.

Duration and Conditions of Stay

Visitors under this category can stay in the United Kingdom for up to six months. The visa cannot be extended or switched to a Student Visa within the country.

If your course is longer than six months or leads to an official qualification, you must apply for a Student Visa instead. Our solicitors assess your objectives and guide you on the most efficient visa strategy to ensure legal compliance and continuity of study.

Financial and Accommodation Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate that they can support themselves during their stay without recourse to public funds. Following the 11 November 2025 Statement of Changes, the minimum monthly living cost thresholds have increased to reflect inflation.

For visitors studying in London, you must show sufficient funds to cover higher accommodation and travel expenses compared to other UK regions.

If your course provider offers residential accommodation or sponsorship, written confirmation must be included in the application. We review each document to ensure that it meets the Home Office’s financial and authenticity standards.

Invitation and Confirmation of Study

A central requirement for all study visit applications is evidence of acceptance from the UK education provider.

This confirmation must include:

Our team liaises directly with UK institutions to verify that the invitation or enrolment confirmation satisfies the exact wording required under Appendix Visitor: Study.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and Digital Status

From 25 February 2026, all non-visa nationals, including citizens of the United States, Canada, and the European Unio,n must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the UK.

Travellers requiring a visa must apply online for a Standard Visitor Visa and select “study” as the reason for travel. All approvals are now digital, issued as eVisas linked to a UKVI online account.

At First Law Solicitors, we handle every application through our secure client portal using Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES). Our system fully complies with the Data Use and Access Act 2025, ensuring that all identity documents and academic evidence are verified digitally and securely transmitted to the Home Office.

Common Legal Challenges

The most frequent reasons for refusal include:

Our solicitors ensure that every part of your application, from your academic confirmation to your travel intent, is presented clearly and with legal precision to avoid unnecessary refusals or delays.
